Late on October 22, International Forest Products (Interfor) reported a loss, before unusual items, of $0.16/share for its Q3. mainly due to stronger-thanexpected sales volumes and lower unit costs.
This result is better than the loss of $0.30/share reported in the previous quarter, but worse than the loss of $0.12/share reported in the same quarter a year ago.
At the operating level, earnings improved quarter-over-quarter because of the positive effects of stronger commodity lumber prices, lower wood costs and stronger operating rates. These positives more than offset the negative effects of a stronger Canadian dollar and weaker cedar prices.
